i sway sweaty and saturated
in the red-blue aquarium
my boots swallowed by the substrate
backing into silicon caves
where bartenders tend bars
in all this color-clamor
and i try not to die in this country
moving heavenward
a greenstripe barb holding its
mouth to the lid in dream
i’m feeling coral reef
freeing myself in fluorescence
in saltwater stinging i swear
the barb is trying to tell me something
her language caught in crystal
she breaks inside a water flute
spilling over affidavits
and transit permits
and whatever else
to fight a facetime funeral
but who’s finding her fins
floating in foreign
who’s calling home
who’s home calling
who’s barcodingbodybagging me
in the back of a musty ambulance
i lose my balance now
slow sway
rubber glove the barb out of the tank
still color-carcass
the fish at the lid all
swinging in bar fight and jukebox
trying to tell you something
