Ali Baluch

Ali Baluch is a Baloch lens based artist hailing from Malir, Karachi. While photography forms the bedrock of his practice, he expands his visual narrative through experimentation with film and sound. His body of work documents Malir, offering a critical gaze on the Malir Expressway project’s catastrophic impact on the region’s seasonal river, farmlands and lives. Ali’s work sheds light on the nuanced lives of Malir’s climate vulnerable communities and their labor exploited by grey infrastructural development and extractivist regimes. He is dedicated to creating powerful lens based projects that illuminate stories from Karachi erased from the mainstream due to structural violence against indigenous voices and countercultures.
