Jaun Elia
Jaun Elia (1931–2002) was born Syed Hussain Sibt-e-Asghar Naqvi in Amroha, India. After Partition, he moved to Karachi, Pakistan, in 1957. His received his early education from his father, Shafiq Hasan Elia. He spoke Farsi, Arabic, and Urdu. In Pakistan, he worked with the Urdu Dictionary Board, and edited Aalami Digest with Zahida Hena.
He was deeply interested in philosophy, history, and religion. Shayad, his first anthology, was published in his lifetime, in 1991. His poetry collections Yaani (2003), Gumaan (2004), Lekin (2006), Goyaa (2008), as well as a collection of his prose, Farnood (2008), were published posthumously with the help of his companion Khaild Ahmed Ansari. Khalid also compiled ‘Ramooz’, Jaun Elia’s epic poem.
